WHAT WE OFFER

Endodontics in Shelby Township

Your teeth are very strong but they’re still vulnerable to injury. A tooth can be placed at risk if decay or damage penetrates the enamel of the tooth and exposes the soft, inner tissue. This tissue, called the pulp, can become infected, and the infection can spread from the tooth to the surrounding tissues, resulting in an serious infection called an abscess. If it isn’t treated, the abscess can weaken the tooth so much that it becomes loose and has to be removed.

How does root canal treatment work?

Root canal treatment prevents infection of the pulp by removing the pulp from a damaged tooth. The procedure involves drilling a small hole in the tooth to reach the pulp, removing the pulp with special tools, disinfecting the inside of the tooth to prevent infection, and sealing the tooth. After the procedure, we will restore the tooth with a dental crown.

Aren’t root canals painful?

Root canals are performed under local anesthesia so the procedure is not painful. You may feel some discomfort and sensitivity after treatment, similar to having a tooth filled.

If you suspect you’ve damaged a tooth, or if you are suffering from a toothache, call us to book an appointment.
